Explore Door Peninsula

February 5th, 2010 by vonstiehl

Door County is considered one of the most beautiful spots in the country. Take a few days to explore Door County in the coming months, before the crowds come. Meander up the peninsula and experience the landscape in winter.

If you are starting in Green Bay, pick up some artisan cheese at Nala’s Fromagerie. You’ll find the perfect bottle to accompany it when you stop for a little Wisconsin Wine tasting in Algoma. From there, it takes less than two hours to drive straight to Newport State Park, at the tip of Door Peninsula.

There are several areas up there good for stretching your legs: Newport State Park and Peninsula State Park come to mind. Newport State Park has over 25 miles of trails open for cross-country skiing, including some areas tracked for classical skiing and some groomed for skate skiing. There are also trails to explore on snow shoes. More XC skiing is available at Peninsula State Park, where you can take in the view from atop the bluffs, or visit the historic Eagle Buff Lighthouse.

In short, there is no end to the delights of Door Peninsula. Ask us about some of our favorite spots out here when you stop by our Algoma Winery to pick out a bottle or two for your weekend.
