Sturgeon Bay Fine Art Fair

Written by von Stiehl

Memorial Day Weekend in Door County means the Sturgeon Bay Fine Art Fair. It's a great excuse to experience springtime on the Door Peninsula. This art fair is part of Door County's Festival of Blossoms, meaning it's a lovely time to visit.

The fun runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27. 2012 is the 13th annual Fine Art Fair, and it looks like this year's event will be bigger and better than ever.

The Sturgeon Bay Fine Art Fair features original art work from close to 90 Wisconsin and Midwest artists. There will be sculpture, painting, jewelry, photography, fiber, and ceramics. Most of the artists will be on hand to discuss what they do and how they do it. All is for sale.

In addition to art, there will be music. Randy Peterson, Dan Ognavic, and TC Hatter are scheduled to take the stage several times throughout the weekend.

This is a child-friendly festival, with many activities designed to spark creativity in children.

Spend Memorial Day Weekend on the Door Peninsula. Drop by our Algoma, Wisconsin Winery on your way north. Taste some wine and buy a bottle or two of your favorites to enjoy over the weekend.

Happy Memorial Day!

Additional information is available at Sturgeon Bay Fine Art Fair.

Try a bottle of Lakeshore Mist over Memorial Day Weekend.

2012 Girls Night Out in Algoma

Written by von Stiehl

The 5th Annual Girls Night Out takes place in Algoma, Wisconsin on May 18th and 19, 2012. Algoma is a charming small town on the shores of Lake Michigan, at the south end of the Door Peninsula. Don't miss it!

There is nothing like getting away with your best girlfriends; you stay up late, talk about all sorts of things, and laugh a lot. Such occasions are precious, not least because the older we get, the less frequently they occur. Spouses, children, work, and other commitments mean there is little time for girlfriend getaways.

Make time for your best friends this year, or your sisters and your mother. Head to Algoma, Wisconsin for two nights at the historic Hotel Stebbins. This fun weekend includes:

  • Steak and lobster dinner with complimentary hors d'oeuvres.
  • DJ entertainment at Hotel Stebbins.
  • Admittance into the Cherry De-Lite Festival
  • $10 gift certificate to von Stiehl, a fabulous Algoma, Wisconsin Winery.
  • $10 gift certificate to the Pampered Chef
  • An assortment of free gifts from Algoma retailers.

The Cherry De-Lite Festival features live music, free chocolate covered cherries (oh my), and a televised "Cook Off" hosted by Mad Dog and Merrill and your weekend host, Kristine Ruel. It is guaranteed to be a fabulous weekend!

Stay one night or stay both nights. Just stay long enough to swing by von Stiehl for a little Wisconsin wine tasting while you're here.

Additional information available at Hotel Stebbins.

A Dinner with Wine and Beer

Written by von Stiehl

We make wine here at von Stiehl Winery, but that doesn't mean we don't like beer. To prove it, we joining forces with Titletown Brewing Company on April 25, 2012, for a Wine and Beer Dinner. We hope you'll join us there for a dinner paired with both wine and beer.

Titletown Brewing Company is located in a lovely historic railroad depot in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It's a wonderful place to enjoy a meal (especially when that meal is accompanied by a glass of our Wisconsin wine or a pint of Titletown beer.

The Wine and Beer Dinner will start with a Greek Salad, move on to a lovely Pork Braciole, and conclude with Pecan Wine Cake. For those unfamiliar with it, a Pork Braciole is a pork loin stuffed with pancetta. It is unbelievably good. As for the Pecan Wine Cake, it simply has to be tasted.

Each course will be paired with a von Stiehl Wisconsin wine and a Titletown beer specifically chosen to complement the food. This really is the perfect event for couples with one avid beer drinker and one oenophile. It's also a steal at just $30 per person (plus tax).

Reservations must be made by April 22. Please call Titletown at 920-437-2237.

Cheers!

Written by von Stiehl

When tax day arrives, you'll want to celebrate. If you're like us, you'll also want to avoid spending lot's of money. With these thoughts in mind, we've decided to host  "Swap Meet & Wine" at von Stiehl Winery on April 15, 2012.

Dig into your closet or brave your attic and find items you haven't seen or worn or used in years. Bring them with you to our Wisconsin Winery and leave them here. Someone else is sure to want them, for as the adage goes, one (wo)man's trash is another (wo)man's treasure. We'll donate what's left at the end of the day to a charity.

Sip a glass of Wisconsin Wine as you browse, and nibble tasty finger foods. This is to be a festive occasion!

Taste the Future of Wisconsin Wine

Written by von Stiehl

Every wine lover dreams of drinking wine straight from the barrel at least once in a lifetime. Barrel aging and stone wine cellars are iconic. To stand in a wine cellar and breathe in the rich scent of the earth and the wood and the stone and the wine can be a heady experience. To actually taste some of the wine? Divine.

Von Stiehl Winery in Algoma, Wisconsin, is inviting you to have just that kind of experience. Spend some time with our winemaker, Aric, in the wine cellar. Be among the first to try some of his newest creations. Sample the Old Vine Merlot and Zinfandel. Try the Estate Barrel-Aged Marechal Foch, made entirely from grapes grown in our Stony Creek vineyard. Try the Barrel-fermented Chardonnay.

As you taste the wine you'll learn more about how it is created. In addition, you'll enjoy delicious appetizers and past vintage reserve tastings. We're looking forward to a fun afternoon.

Join us for a Wine Futures & Barrel Tasting in our historic Algoma, Wisconsin winery. Saturday, March 24, 2012, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Call 800.955.5208.

Which Wines Go Best With Pizza?

Written by von Stiehl

Which wines go best with pizza? With burgers? These are questions we've all asked ourselves at one time or another. Wine drinkers know that pizza can and should be enjoyed with wine. Pizza is frequently eaten in Italy and France, after all, where it is surely served with wine. Yet in this country, pizza and burgers are frequently served with beer. What's a wine drinker to do?

For the casual cooks out there, and even the gourmet chefs who like to feast on hamburgers and pizza from time to time, this is for you.

At our Ladies of the Vine Super Tasting, you'll learn how to pair our Wisconsin Wine (and any wine, really) with casual fare. You'll learn what tastes best with pizza and which wines to serve with birthday cake. In the process, you'll eat, you'll drink, and you'll be merry.

By the time you head out the door and over to a Super Bowl Party, you'll be armed with much knowledge and you'll be in a good mood. You may even feel like throwing a party yourself.

Hope to see you at our Algoma, Wisconsin Winery on Sunday, February 5, 2012, from noon to 3 p.m.

Super Super Bowl Sunday Event

Written by von Stiehl

Super Bowl Sunday doesn't only have to be about football. Really.

This year, Super Bowl Sunday can be about a whole lot more, at least for any ladies who can be at our Algoma, Wisconsin Winery from noon to 3:00 p.m.

Ladies of the Vine "Super" Tasting

February 5, 2012

aka Super Bowl Sunday

Learn about that mysterious magical art--the art of pairing wine with food. In honor of the Super Bowl, the focus is on casual fare rather than gourmet.

Have you always wondered which wines taste best with pizza? With burgers? With bowls of chips and dip? These mysteries and others will be solved on Super Bowl Sunday at von Stiehl. We'll share some cardinal "dos" and "don'ts". We'll eat food. We'll sip several types of our Wisconsin wine. We won't have our eyes glued to a television.

After the magical pairing of wine and food, we'll turn the spotlight on Lou Lepore. Lou has been practicing and performing magic for more than 25 years. We expect audience participation, laughs, and magic, of course.

By the time our "Super" Tasting has finished, participants may not remember the other big event that takes place on February 5, 2012. Those who do remember should have ample time to make it to a Super Bowl party.

Not a member of Ladies of the Vine? Not a problem. To become a member, all you have to do is attend an event. Ladies of the Vine are entitled to many perks: 10% off gift merchandise at the winery, periodic special deals on our Wisconsin wine, and invitations to exclusive events.

Ladies of the Vine know how to have fun.

Stiehl Ball Canceled

Written by von Stiehl

A couple of weeks ago in this blog, we invited one and all to dust off the old dancing shoes in anticipation of the Stiehl Ball planned for January 28, 2012.

We regret to inform you that the Stiehl Ball has been canceled due to insufficient interest .

If you had your heart set on attending the Stiehl Ball, don't despair. We still think it's a good idea, and we hope to plan a similar event in the future.
