Door County Cherry Blossoms
Â
Door County Cherries are imbued with all the freshness of spring. They burst with flavor. They're tangy-sweet and juicy. To eat a cherry is to taste heaven.
When we see all the Door County Cherry blossoms, we dream of the future harvest and the cherry pies to come. We dream of jams and tarts and cherry-filled pastries. We anticipate cheesecakes topped with cherries, yogurt mixed with cherries, and chocolate covered cherries.
All these thoughts compel us to open a bottle of Doc Stiehl's Cherry Bounce, a delightful combination of Wisconsin Cherry Wine and Cherry Brandy. We sip it after dinner, in lieu of eating a slice of non-existent cherry pie. When we feel in a very cherry mood, we also have a glass of Cherry Blossom Blush before dinner. The cherry flavor in our Wisconsin Cherry wines is always fresh.
Come to Door County to see the Cherry Blossoms this spring. Drive around on your own, ride your bike past the many orchards of the Door Peninsula, or sign up for a Spring Blossom Trolley Tour in Egg Harbor.
In the evening, after dinner, pull out a bottle of Doc. Stiehl's Cherry Bounce, and toast the arrival of spring.

Von Stiehl Winery Wins Awards
We are thrilled to announce that six of our Wisconsin Wines recently won awards at the 2011 Tasters Guild International. We submitted six wines, and all six won!
Tasters Guild was established in 1987 and currently boasts 40 active chapters throughout the country. Each chapter sponsors a variety of food and wine events throughout the year. Tasters Guild also conducts an Annual International Wine Judging each spring, when experts review and award new releases.
This year, our Algoma Winery took home gold medals for our new White Stileto and our Cabernet Sauvignon. We took home silver medals for our Naughty Girl Wine, Cherry Bounce, and our Crimson Royale. And we took home one bronze medal for our Risque Riesling.
It is gratifying to have the quality of our wine recognized by experts in the field. Yet feedback from our customers is no less important to us. Come see for yourself - visit our Algoma Winery and try some of our wine. Ask us to pour you a glass of White Stiletto or our Naughty Girl Wine. Plan to come to one of our Cuisine Concerts later this summer, or to Ladie's Fest in early July.
We make our wine for you to enjoy, and we are truly honored by the awards granted us by Tasters Guild.
Please visit Tasters Guild for more information about the organization.
The Fresh Taste of Spring
Spring in and around Door County bursts with color. Pink and white cherry and apple blossoms sit fatly on trees, gathering energy to morph into tasty, succulent fruit. The vintner at our Algoma Wisconsin Winery transforms some of those luscious cherries into Cherry Blossom Blush.
Enjoy a glass of this semi-dry white wine blushed with Montmorency cherries. It's delightful on its own, with a plate of hard cheeses and crackers, or even with a dense, delicious, chocolate dessert.
Stop by our Algoma WI Winery on your way up to the Door County Festival of Blossoms this spring. Enjoy a Spring Blossom Trolley Tour out of Sturgeon Bay or Carlsville. Bike the 30-mile Ahnapee Trail. Explore Ellison Bluff Park or bring your boat and cruise along the shoreline of Lake Michigan.
A cooling glass of Cherry Blossom Blush is the perfect way to end a day spent breathing in the lovely scent of spring blossoms. Or toast the arrival of spring with one of our other Wisconsin Wines: Dry Cherry, Dry Apple "Wrap", Doc Stiehl's Cherry Bounce, Cherry Kirsche "Oak Aged", or Cherry Brandy.

Algoma Winery Featured on the Taste Spot
Our Algoma Winery was recently featured on The Taste Spot's first edition of Taste Travel, during their travels through our great state of Wisconsin. Karen shines as she is interviewed while pouring tastes of our Algoma Wine. She talks about our resident ghost (take our winery tour and learn all about him), Cherry Bounce, and the origins of our Naughty Girl wine.
Check it out at The Taste Spot.

Winter in Door County
Winter in Door County is idyllic. Think romantic weekends cuddling by the fire in a vacation cabin or B&B. Think families playing together in the great outdoors. Think of skiing and snowshoeing with a group of friends. Imagine yourself flying over the snow on a snowmobile, ice fishing on Green Bay, or quietly cantering through the forest on horseback. Yes, Door County is a wonderland in winter time.
If you are traveling to Door County some weekend soon, stop by our Algoma Wisconsin Winery on your way north. The perfect end to a day of winter recreation is to share a bottle of our Wisconsin Wine by the fire.
Sip on Doc Stiehl's Cherry Bounce, a wonderful blend of cherry wine and cherry brandy - it will warm you from the inside out. Share a bottle of Meritage, a uniquely Wisconsin wine that is earthy and full. Serve the kids our Sparkling Grape Juice. The gift shop and tasting room at our Wisconsin winery is also a good place to find chocolate treats and Wisconsin cheeses to share on winter nights in Door County.
Wisconsin Wine - the Perfect Gift
Writer and humorist Oren Arnold once said that the best gift for one's enemy is forgiveness, the best gift to a friend is your heart, and the best gift to yourself is respect. Wise words indeed, and while we don't dispute them, we do have a few other ideas.
How about giving the gift of Wisconsin Wine?
Give Napa Valley Mulling Spices along with a bottle of Cranberry Wine, Sweet Cherry Wine, or Dry Apple Wrap; it's something not everyone thinks to purchase themselves and most people enjoy. Plus it's festive. Or offer bottles of Christmas Blush and Christmas Wine - it's the perfect time of year for these, after all. If you love to give wine with fun labels, leave a bottle of Knockin' Heads Red under the tree. Bring a bottle of Dry Riesling to hosts of a gathering, and put a bow on a bottle of Naughty Girl Wisconsin Wine for the lady who is too naughty to receive a gift from Santa!
For stocking stuffers, try an assortment of bottle stoppers, bottle decorations, and wine glass trinkets (never confuse your glass with another again). For under the tree, how about a lovely wine rack?
The best thing about the gift of wine is that there is never a bad moment to offer it. It's appropriate any time of year, before and after Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year's. Stop by our Wisconsin Winery in Algoma when you're on your way to Door County. Taste our wines and pick up a few bottles of the ones you like most, and keep them on hand to offer friends and families on any occasion.
Merry Christmas.
Our Wisconsin Winery is a Family Affair
Our Wisconsin Winery is owned and operated by brothers Brad and Aric Schmiling. Brewing wine and beer has been in the Schmiling family for generations. Henry Schmiling was a brew master at the original Ahnapee Brewing, back in the 19th century. In 1981, Bill and Sandy Schmiling purchased the Von Stiehl winery (in the original Ahnapee Brewing building) from Dr. Stiehl. They continued producing great Wisconsin wines, and raised their sons to love the winemaking industry.
In 2003, Brad and Aric Smiling purchased the winery from their parents, who remain involved to this day. The business has prospered under Brad and Aric's leadership. They are producing more grape wines than ever before, though the fruit wines - particularly the original Montmorency Cherry wines created by Dr. Stiehl - are still an important part of their business.
Come take a tour of the winery this summer, and pick up a bottle of refreshing Wisconsin wine. We are located on the shores of Lake Michigan, in the lovely little town of Algoma - perfect for a weekend getaway from the city.

Wisconsin Cherry Wine
When the cherry trees are in bloom, it's a good time to drink our Cherry Wisconsin Wines.
We have several varieties. Our Dry Cherry is an excellent accompaniment to hearty meat dishes, like wild game. Imagine that food drenched in a cherry reduction sauce, and you have an idea of what awaits when you crack open a bottle of Door County Montmorency Cherries.
For dessert, enjoy a glass of our Cherry Kirsche or Cherry Kirsche Oak Aged, Wisconsin Dessert Wines. These fortified wines blend brandy spirits and cherry wine, and are the perfect match to dense chocolate desserts or rich cheese cakes.
Or finish off your meal with a glass of Dr. Stiehl's Cherry Bounce, a smooth blend of cherry wine and cherry brandy. You won't need dessert - you'll just want to sink into a chair and let the doctor work his magic.
