Country Music, Wisconsin Wine

The Cuisine Concert series at our Algoma Wisconsin Winery continues on Saturday, August 13, with the Modern Day Drifters. It's hard to sit still when listening to music by this country band from Door County. Jason Leist fronts the band; his deep, smooth voice moves audiences no matter what their age. He's joined on stage by his brother Brian, cousins Mike and John McCaulley, and Bobby Brauer, no relation.

We'll serve some tasty country-style food on the 13th, along with a selection of Wisconsin cheeses and crackers. Our Wisconsin Wine will be available for purchase as well. Ask us which wines best compliment the food and cheese, or try several and see for yourself. We've recently bottled a new batch of Framboise and it's ready to drink.

Since Algoma's Shanty Days Festival takes place the weekend of August 13, the Modern Day Drifters Cuisine Concert will start at 1 p.m. and run until 5 p.m. Drop by for a while if you're in town for Shanty Days, and check out Shanty Days if your in town for the Cuisine Concerts.

Our Cuisine Concerts take place outside on our terrace, where seating is available both in the shade and sun. In the event of rain, we host our Cuisine Concerts in our limestone tunnels. It's such a beautiful setting we know folks who hope for rain!

Shanty Days 2011

Algoma's annual Shanty Days festival is a "Celebration of the Lake". Since Algoma sits on the shores of Lake Michigan, we have good reason to celebrate. Thanks to the lake we have fish, beaches, and huge stretches of water on which to boat. The lake keeps us cool in the summer and gives us something beautiful to look at in the winter.

Shanty Days 2011 takes place August 12 - 14. Highlights include:

  • Parade (Saturday at noon)
  • Fireworks (Sunday at dusk)
  • Street Fair (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Arts & Craft Show (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Lots of live music

There's also a 5K walk/run (Saturday morning), and an area "Just for Kids". Shanty Days wouldn't be Shanty Days without the Fishing Contest, held Thursday through Sunday. Call 920.883.9792 for more information.

We hope you'll take this opportunity to stop by our Algoma, Wisconsin Winery. We pour all of our wines in the Tasting Room, and guests are welcome to enjoy purchased bottles of wine on our terrace.

Our Cuisine Concert Series on August 13 will feature The Modern Day Drifters, a Door County band known for its genre-crossing style and super fun music. Drop by any time between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. for music, food, and delicious Wisconsin Wine.

Additional information about Shanty Days is available at the Algoma Chamber of Commerce.

Von Stiehl Winery Wins Awards

We are thrilled to announce that six of our Wisconsin Wines recently won awards at the 2011 Tasters Guild International. We submitted six wines, and all six won!

Tasters Guild was established in 1987 and currently boasts 40 active chapters throughout the country. Each chapter sponsors a variety of food and wine events throughout the year. Tasters Guild also conducts an Annual International Wine Judging each spring, when experts review and award new releases.

This year, our Algoma Winery took home gold medals for our new White Stileto and our Cabernet Sauvignon. We took home silver medals for our Naughty Girl Wine, Cherry Bounce, and our Crimson Royale. And we took home one bronze medal for our Risque Riesling.

It is gratifying to have the quality of our wine recognized by experts in the field. Yet feedback from our customers is no less important to us. Come see for yourself - visit our Algoma Winery and try some of our wine. Ask us to pour you a glass of White Stiletto or our Naughty Girl Wine. Plan to come to one of our Cuisine Concerts later this summer, or to Ladie's Fest in early July.

We make our wine for you to enjoy, and we are truly honored by the awards granted us by Tasters Guild.

Please visit Tasters Guild for more information about the organization.
