February Getaway Packages
Â
Sometimes it's just nice to step out of your routine. If you're feeling like you could use a change of scenery, consider spending a few days in Algoma, Wisconsin. Our charming little town is nestled against Lake Michigan at the base of the Door Peninsula. It's beautiful, it's peaceful, it's fun, and it's less than an hour from Green Bay.
Hotel Stebbins is offering a February Lodging Package that is guaranteed to lift your spirits. The "For Fun - For Romance" All-inclusive Package at Hotel Stebbins is a great deal.
Start with delicious coffee and breakfast at Caffé Tlazo, where you can surf the web, read the paper, or simply enjoy each other's company as you sink your teeth into freshly baked treats.
In the middle of the day head over to Algoma Pizza Bowl for a couple of games and a slice or two. Then come to von Stiehl, our Algoma Wisconsin Winery, for wine and chocolate pairing. Yum.
Dinner at the Stebbins Restaurant is the perfect way to round out the day. Start with drinks in the lounge, where you can sit by the fireplace and admire the original tin ceilings. Move to the dining room for dinner, and be sure to try the Frog Legs. They're amazing.
The special package at Hotel Stebbins is available through the month of February. Come for a little R&R: some Wisconsin Wine, some artisan chocolates, some bowling… What could be better?

Door County Wine Trail
Have you ever considered a trek along the Door County Wine Trail? The coming weeks and months are a great time to bike or drive from one winery to another, enjoying the last days of summer or basking in the autumnal beauty of the Door Peninsula. Von Stiehl Winery, in Algoma Wisconsin, makes a good starting (and ending) point for the trail.
Door County is a courageous sliver of land between Lake Michigan and the Bay of Green Bay. It is filled with quaint small towns, rolling farmland, hardwood forests, and miles of beaches and waterfront. It's a wonderland in the summer and winter, full of fragrant blossoms in the spring, and ablaze in fall colors in autumn. Outdoor recreation is paramount, and there is plenty of space for everyone to stretch and explore.
A handful of wineries are now growing grapes and making wine on the fertile land of Door County. Each Door County, Wisconsin Winery produces distinct wines, proving that even minuscule geographic distinctions can have huge impacts on the end products. Come see (and taste) for yourself. Visit them all.
Seven Wisconsin Wineries comprise the Door County Wine Trail:
1. Von Stiehl Winery, Algoma, Wisconsin.
2. Red Oak Winery, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
3. Door Peninsula Winery, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
4. Simon Creek Vineyard & Winery, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
5. Harbor Ridge Winery, Egg Harbor, Wisconsin.
6. Stone's Throw Winery, Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin.
7. Orchard Country Winery & Market, Fish Creek, Wisconsin.
The Anhapee State Park Trail runs between Algoma and Sturgeon may, making the first (and last) leg of a bike trip between wineries a cinch. From Sturgeon Bay, Bay Shore Drive hugs the coast up to Ephraim. Riders will have to travel inland a bit to visit several of the wineries. It's approximately fifty miles between Algoma and Ephraim - take your time and savor wine tasting over several days.
We of course hope you'll stop by our Algoma, Wisconsin Winery, von Stiehl, for a sample of our Door County Wine.
Additional information may be found at Door County Wine Trail. The map above is from this site.

The Fresh Taste of Spring
Spring in and around Door County bursts with color. Pink and white cherry and apple blossoms sit fatly on trees, gathering energy to morph into tasty, succulent fruit. The vintner at our Algoma Wisconsin Winery transforms some of those luscious cherries into Cherry Blossom Blush.
Enjoy a glass of this semi-dry white wine blushed with Montmorency cherries. It's delightful on its own, with a plate of hard cheeses and crackers, or even with a dense, delicious, chocolate dessert.
Stop by our Algoma WI Winery on your way up to the Door County Festival of Blossoms this spring. Enjoy a Spring Blossom Trolley Tour out of Sturgeon Bay or Carlsville. Bike the 30-mile Ahnapee Trail. Explore Ellison Bluff Park or bring your boat and cruise along the shoreline of Lake Michigan.
A cooling glass of Cherry Blossom Blush is the perfect way to end a day spent breathing in the lovely scent of spring blossoms. Or toast the arrival of spring with one of our other Wisconsin Wines: Dry Cherry, Dry Apple "Wrap", Doc Stiehl's Cherry Bounce, Cherry Kirsche "Oak Aged", or Cherry Brandy.

Winter in Door County
Winter in Door County is idyllic. Think romantic weekends cuddling by the fire in a vacation cabin or B&B. Think families playing together in the great outdoors. Think of skiing and snowshoeing with a group of friends. Imagine yourself flying over the snow on a snowmobile, ice fishing on Green Bay, or quietly cantering through the forest on horseback. Yes, Door County is a wonderland in winter time.
If you are traveling to Door County some weekend soon, stop by our Algoma Wisconsin Winery on your way north. The perfect end to a day of winter recreation is to share a bottle of our Wisconsin Wine by the fire.
Sip on Doc Stiehl's Cherry Bounce, a wonderful blend of cherry wine and cherry brandy - it will warm you from the inside out. Share a bottle of Meritage, a uniquely Wisconsin wine that is earthy and full. Serve the kids our Sparkling Grape Juice. The gift shop and tasting room at our Wisconsin winery is also a good place to find chocolate treats and Wisconsin cheeses to share on winter nights in Door County.
Romance and Wine in Door County
Many Door County Bed and Breakfasts and vacation cabins are offering romance packages now through March, 2011. This is a wonderful time to run off to beautiful Door County with the person you love. Be sure to swing by our Wisconsin Winery in Algoma when you do, for our wine complements romance.
If you define a romantic weekend as days of fresh air followed evenings by the fire, Door County has what you need. Outdoor activities abound year round in Door County. At this time of year, nordic skiers and snowmobilers have an eye to the sky and an ear to snow reports; most are ready to drop everything and head for the trails as soon as the powder starts to accumulate. As of yet there is not a deep base of snow in the Door County, but many trails are still skiable and fresh snow is on the way. If you're planning a trip this weekend, head to the Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek or Snowkraft Nordic in Sturgeon Bay.
Our Algoma Wisconsin Winery is situated at the base of the Door Peninsula on the shores of Lake Michigan. We're just 45 minutes northeast of Green Bay. Stop by the winery on your way to a romantic getaway at a Door County inn or cabin. Take time to taste our wine and find one that will be perfect for your weekend. If you're planning to cook, our pourers can suggest a wine to pair with your meal. If you would like a bottle to share while cuddling by the fire, we can help you find a wine that is lovely on its own.
Hope to see you soon.

Wisconsin Wine and Quilts
Blustery fall weather has arrived, but that doesn't stop intrepid Midwesterners from having fun. Weekends are still a time for outdoor activity and recreation - hiking, biking, boating, sightseeing, wine tasting… anything goes.
This weekend, why not take a break from the city (Green Bay, Manitowoc) and head up to Door County to relax and unwind. When you do, stop by our Algoma Wisconsin Winery for wine tasting and a bottle or two of your favorite Wisconsin wine - it will make the weekend that much better.
Touring the Kewaunee Area Barn Quilts is a great way to spend a day. Inspired by a similar project in Iowa, the Kewaunee County Area Barn Quilt project highlights historically significant barns. 4-H and FFA students throughout Kewaunee County spoke with the property owners about their barns, and patterns and colors were selected. The youngsters created the quilts and hung them over the course of a year, and today there are 18 barn quilts in the region.
Our Algoma Winery tasting room is conveniently located in the midst of these beautifully adorned historic barns. On warm and sunny fall days, try a glass of refreshing Chardonnay or Chenin Blanc. If you need to hold on to your hat, stop by for a sip of our velvety Cabernet Sauvignon or our eminently drinkable Satin Red. The atmosphere of our tasting room is inviting and friendly - the perfect addition to a weekend getaway on the Door Peninsula.
Please visit Kewaunee County Area Barn Quilts for additional information.

Fall Colors in Door County
Door County is recognized as one of the most spectacular spots in the Midwest for leaf peeping. As you plan your fall color tours in and around Door County, remember to stop by our Algoma Wisconsin winery. Our Apple Icing is delightful at this time of year, combining as it does the flavors of freshly picked apples and butterscotch. Delicious.

LOTV Spring Fun
This weekend is supposed to be lovely - sunny and mild. It will be the perfect time to get out of Green Bay and head to our Algoma Wisconsin Winery. Stop by as you head up to Door County for a weekend of fresh air and outdoor activity. Pick up a bottle or two of Wisconsin wine to enjoy while you are there. Or just enjoy time in and around Algoma.
Something fun is always cooking at our Wisconsin Winery. The Ladies of The Vine are gathering this Sunday, April 18, 2010 for "Aroma and Arranging". From 1 to 3:30. They'll be learning how to create astounding floral arrangements and centerpieces with the help of folks from Steele Street Floral.
How often do you take time to examine your sense of smell? During "Aroma and Arranging", we'll talk about how taste and smell are connected. Flowers, food and our own Wisconsin State Wine will all be sampled. Call 920-487-5208 for more details.
Our tasting room has been expanded, so more folks now fit comfortably. Hope to see you this weekend!
Call Your Girlfriends and Head to Algoma
Since March is a month to celebrate and honor women (International Women's Day and National Women's History Month), isn't now the time to plan a girlfriends getaway to beautiful Door County? On your way, be sure to stop by our Algoma Wisconsin Winery, where you can taste to your heart's content.
We are currently in the process of adding 32 feet to our wine tasting bar. This means more elbow room for you when you come. Or, invite more friends to join you. We are dedicated pourers of our Wisconsin wine, so the tasting room and shop are open during the brief construction period. Come check out the change next weekend!
And gals, if you are indeed heading for a weekend of fun in Door County, (when you'll ski and stay up too late talking) you won't want to be without several bottles of Wisconsin wines. Seems like the perfect time for that elegant and sassy Naughty Girl Red. If you prefer whites, try our Oktoberfest, a semi-sweet blend of Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Vignoles.
Come rest your elbows on the new counter in our tasting room, and decide which wines you like best. Then enjoy them with your good friends.
Pictured below is our tasting room before the new counter addition.
