National Drink Wine Day

There just weren't enough holidays until National Drink Wine Day joined the calendar. Admittedly, this is still a relatively unknown holiday, and few (if any) folks will be given the day off from work. Nonetheless, we're doing our part to spread the word here at von Stiehl,

Let's be clear about something: the way to celebrate National Drink Wine Day is NOT to drink wine all day. Wine is to be sipped and savored. Less is more, when it comes to drinking wine. Did we really say that?

That said, we invite one and all to celebrate National Drink Wine Day with wine tasting at our Algoma, Wisconsin Winery. Sample up to seven wines, and when you find one you can't live without, buy a bottle and take it home. We pour 30 Wisconsin in the tasting room, and we're open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Consider trying our Winter Sampler, which includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Barrel Select Cabernet, Merlot, Meritage, Satin Red, and Naughty Girl. If you like the taste pours, you can take home the real Winter Sampler Kit. It should help the remainder of winter pass more enjoyably.

Even if you can't make it to our Wisconsin Winery, we hope you'll celebrate National Drink Wine Day at home. Share a really special bottle of wine with a really special person or two. Now that's an event worth celebrating.

Our Wisconsin Wine Club

Our Wisconsin Wine Club is a great gift for anyone - including you.

Once each quarter, our Algoma Wisconsin Winery ships out a gift box containing a selection of our Wisconsin wine. Recipients never know what will arrive - red wine, white wine, fruit wine, or a combination. A big hunk of tasty Wisconsin cheese will be shipped along with the wine, and another food item as well.

This month we sent out Naughty Girl Red and our Dry Cherry wines. Organic Muenster cheese from Organic Valley Dairy accompanied the wine, as did a box of small, buttery, spring onion crackers. The combination of the wine, cheese, and crackers was really fine. We work hard to find successful pairings (it's a tough job…). All you have to do is open the box and enjoy.

Our Wisconsin Wine Club is a great idea for anyone who may be feeling tired of the same old wine and cheese they always purchase. It is easy to get into a rut when selecting wine - we tend to go with what we know. It is also easy to spend hours standing in front of the cheese counter, trying to imagine which cheese will best complement the wine. In short, it can be an exhausting process, and if the end results don't meet expectations, it can be downright dispiriting.

We hope our Wisconsin Wine and Cheese Club will bring a little joy into your life. It's fun to give presents and it's fun to get presents. Give the gift of wine and cheese to someone you love. Then give it to yourself!

The next time you're in Algoma, stop by our Wine and Gift Shop.

The Third Clue

Third Clue - Mrs. Naughty Klaus & the Mysterious Kayak

Santa returned from his jaunt to Wisconsin dragging a kayak behind his sleigh and he has no idea why! Santa was so angry when he left that he pushed Comet and Dasher a little too hard. Dasher blew a reindeershoe and limped through the air like a...well there aren't many similes for that one.

Feeling bad and wanting to “smooth†things over, Santa opened a bottle of Cherry Bounce and shared it with Dasher, Bart, and Comet. The bottle of Bounce briskly disappeared.

Bart asked Santa if there was any sight or sound from Mrs. Klaus. Santa got a tip from Sallie at the winery. Sallie said she saw Mrs. Klaus come in three separate times to sample the same six wines. Mrs. Klaus let a few things slip to Sallie. She donated half of Santa's red coats to the Salvation Army, then sought out a delightful massage at the spa in Hotel Sierra. She sashayed across the river to Captain's Walk Winery and caused a bottle of their Disappearing Treasure to live up to its name. Sallie said that in her last visit, Mrs. Klaus mentioned she was going to a delightful cabin north of Algoma to have a cup of something to sober up.

Comet, Dasher, and Bart were at the edge of their seat in anticipation: had Santa finally found her and was he about to say where this cabin was? Santa said that while she didn't want to be seen, he saw her with Donner and Blitzen. He parked behind that cabin to sneak a peak. Afraid of being spotted, he hurried the takeoff; that's when he snagged the kayak.
