Sturgeon Bay Fine Art Fair
Â
Memorial Day Weekend in Door County means the Sturgeon Bay Fine Art Fair. It's a great excuse to experience springtime on the Door Peninsula. This art fair is part of Door County's Festival of Blossoms, meaning it's a lovely time to visit.
The fun runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27. 2012 is the 13th annual Fine Art Fair, and it looks like this year's event will be bigger and better than ever.
The Sturgeon Bay Fine Art Fair features original art work from close to 90 Wisconsin and Midwest artists. There will be sculpture, painting, jewelry, photography, fiber, and ceramics. Most of the artists will be on hand to discuss what they do and how they do it. All is for sale.
In addition to art, there will be music. Randy Peterson, Dan Ognavic, and TC Hatter are scheduled to take the stage several times throughout the weekend.
This is a child-friendly festival, with many activities designed to spark creativity in children.
Spend Memorial Day Weekend on the Door Peninsula. Drop by our Algoma, Wisconsin Winery on your way north. Taste some wine and buy a bottle or two of your favorites to enjoy over the weekend.
Happy Memorial Day!
Additional information is available at Sturgeon Bay Fine Art Fair.

Door County Wine Trail
Have you ever considered a trek along the Door County Wine Trail? The coming weeks and months are a great time to bike or drive from one winery to another, enjoying the last days of summer or basking in the autumnal beauty of the Door Peninsula. Von Stiehl Winery, in Algoma Wisconsin, makes a good starting (and ending) point for the trail.
Door County is a courageous sliver of land between Lake Michigan and the Bay of Green Bay. It is filled with quaint small towns, rolling farmland, hardwood forests, and miles of beaches and waterfront. It's a wonderland in the summer and winter, full of fragrant blossoms in the spring, and ablaze in fall colors in autumn. Outdoor recreation is paramount, and there is plenty of space for everyone to stretch and explore.
A handful of wineries are now growing grapes and making wine on the fertile land of Door County. Each Door County, Wisconsin Winery produces distinct wines, proving that even minuscule geographic distinctions can have huge impacts on the end products. Come see (and taste) for yourself. Visit them all.
Seven Wisconsin Wineries comprise the Door County Wine Trail:
1. Von Stiehl Winery, Algoma, Wisconsin.
2. Red Oak Winery, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
3. Door Peninsula Winery, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
4. Simon Creek Vineyard & Winery, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
5. Harbor Ridge Winery, Egg Harbor, Wisconsin.
6. Stone's Throw Winery, Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin.
7. Orchard Country Winery & Market, Fish Creek, Wisconsin.
The Anhapee State Park Trail runs between Algoma and Sturgeon may, making the first (and last) leg of a bike trip between wineries a cinch. From Sturgeon Bay, Bay Shore Drive hugs the coast up to Ephraim. Riders will have to travel inland a bit to visit several of the wineries. It's approximately fifty miles between Algoma and Ephraim - take your time and savor wine tasting over several days.
We of course hope you'll stop by our Algoma, Wisconsin Winery, von Stiehl, for a sample of our Door County Wine.
Additional information may be found at Door County Wine Trail. The map above is from this site.

The Miller Art Museum
The Miller Art Museum is located in historic Sturgeon Bay and is open year round. It's a great addition to a Door County vacation, particularly at this time of year, when snows are receding and spring has yet to arrive.
Currently on exhibit at the Miller Art Museum is "Abstractions: Seven Artists - Seven Views", through April 18, 2011. Seven Midwestern artists were invited to participate in this exhibit. They are painters and printmakers, sculptors and photographers.
The museum is home to a permanent collection of works by 20th century Wisconsin artists; in addition, there is a special wing dedicated to the work of Gerhard C. F. Miller, who founded the museum along with his wife, Ruth.
We invite you to stop by our Algoma Wisconsin Winery on your way up to Sturgeon Bay and the Miller Art Museum. Sample our Wisconsin wines in the tasting room, and select a bottle to enjoy while you're up to Door County.

Superlative art by Midwestern Artists at the Miller Art Museum.
Miller Art Museum is open Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. (it is open late on Mondays).
Our Algoma Wisconsin Winery is open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Romance and Wine in Door County

If you define a romantic weekend as days of fresh air followed evenings by the fire, Door County has what you need. Outdoor activities abound year round in Door County. At this time of year, nordic skiers and snowmobilers have an eye to the sky and an ear to snow reports; most are ready to drop everything and head for the trails as soon as the powder starts to accumulate. As of yet there is not a deep base of snow in the Door County, but many trails are still skiable and fresh snow is on the way. If you're planning a trip this weekend, head to the Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek or Snowkraft Nordic in Sturgeon Bay.
Our Algoma Wisconsin Winery is situated at the base of the Door Peninsula on the shores of Lake Michigan. We're just 45 minutes northeast of Green Bay. Stop by the winery on your way to a romantic getaway at a Door County inn or cabin. Take time to taste our wine and find one that will be perfect for your weekend. If you're planning to cook, our pourers can suggest a wine to pair with your meal. If you would like a bottle to share while cuddling by the fire, we can help you find a wine that is lovely on its own.
Hope to see you soon.
