Cheesy Saturdays March 2018

Cheesy Saturdays are back!When should you go on a cheese diet? … When you need to cheddar few pounds!

Our Cheesy Saturdays won’t be quite as cheesy as that joke, but it will include enjoying delectable complimentary samples! Visit us any Saturday* in March and enjoy complimentary samples of various cheese products.

The cheeses we are featuring are near and dear to us because they are made by local cheese producers. We all know Wisconsin does cheese best! Since we are a winery, we will even let you in on a secret as to which wine pairs well with each cheese.

 

Cheese samples will be onsite from Noon – 3 pm each Saturday* in March.

Kraemer Cheese: Kramer Cheese, the maker of our Crimson Royale Cheese Spread, is located in Watertown, WI, and has been making fine dairy products since the 1920s. They will be kicking off Cheesy Saturdays with us on March 3rd. Don’t worry, they will be bringing the Crimson Royale Cheese Spread!

Krohn’s Dairy Products: Krohn’s Dairy Store, located in Luxemburg, WI, is a full service cheese shop offering over 100 styles of Wisconsin cheese, including fresh cheese curds, and has been serving the community for over 125 years. They will be here March 10th!

Renard’s Cheese: Renard’s Cheese, established in 1961 in Door County, WI, is family owned and operated by its 3rd generation of cheese makers, producing handcrafted quality gourmet cheese. They will be sampling their mouthwatering cheeses on March 17th.

Vern’s Cheese: Vern’s Cheese, established in 1964 and located in Chilton,WI, for over 3 generations, they have been providing quality products and services throughout Wisconsin and neighboring states. They will ending our Cheesy Saturdays on March 24th.

 

Anything sampled will be available for purchase, in case the sample kept you craving for more!

Why not make a weekend of it and reserve spots on our VIP Tour that takes place on Friday afternoons? It includes a behind the scenes tour with one of our wine makers and a three course pairing – also featuring premium Wisconsin cheeses!

Sweet Pairing example

Bored of being inside this winter? Jump in the car, go for a drive, and visit us any Saturday in February and enjoy complimentary samples of various sweet treats.

Sweet treats we will be featuring are near and dear to us because they are from local confectioners. That means you may find a new favorite. We will even let you know which wine pairs well with each sweet!

Confectioners will be onsite from Noon – 3 pm each Saturday in February.

White Cottage Red Door: White Cottage Red Door just opened in the spring of 2017, in what was the space formerly occupied for 57 years, by Ray’s Cherry Hut. Their Cherry Wine Fudge is hand-crafted the old-fashioned way, on a marble slab. They will be kicking off Sweet Saturdays with us on February 3rd.

Country Ovens: Country Ovens is located in Forestville, WI. Since 1987, Country Ovens is home to many Cherry De-Lite cherry treats made exclusively from Door County Montmorency tart cherries. They will be here February 10th!

Love You More Toffee: Specializes in hand-dipped small batch English toffee, Love You More, LLC was founded in 2015 and is a local favorite! They will be sampling their toffee February 17th.

Sap Happy Maple Products: Maple Glazed Pecans and other treats from Sap Happy Maple Products. Sap Happy Maple Products is owned by a local family right here in Algoma, WI. The owner is a fourth-generation maple syrup producer and he and his wife create these delightful treats. They will be here February 24th.

Anything sampled will be available for purchase, in case the sample kept you craving for more!

Make your day even sweeter by enjoying complimentary wine tastings! We recommend trying our Cherry Bounce or Apple Bounce, as they are brandy fortified and an extraordinary treat.

If sweets aren’t your thing, don’t worry… we have plenty of delectable dry wines, such as our Pinot Noir, Calistoga Cabernet, and our Montepulciano. And if you are feeling like snacking, we have an array of gourmet cheeses.

VIP Tours at von Stiehl Winery

VIP Tour Offering Coming Soon…

In 2018, tour von Stiehl Winery like a VIP during our newest tour offering, the VIP Tour.

The tour will start at von Stiehl winery, where we will review our history and talk about the future.

Then, we will walk over to our production facility where we invite you behind the scenes with one of our winemakers. This is a great time to ask them your questions, compliment them on your favorite wine, etc. Also, depending on what is going on at production, you may have the chance to sample something from the tanks before it gets into the bottle.

VIP Tours in the Cellars

VIP Tours will include a private three-course pairing in our wine aging cellar.

After talking with the winemaker(s), we will head to the von Stiehl Winery cellars/tunnels. For 40 years, all of our production took place in these three tunnels. In 2011, we moved all production to the production facility. Now we have our barrels aging in the tunnels. While down in these tunnels, enjoy a private three-course pairing, along with a select tasting of Cherry Bounce from the cask.

The list below covers foods* showcased during the three course pairings.

Cherry Berry Nut Mix from Country Ovens, located in Forestville, WI. Since 1987, Country Ovens is home to many Cherry De-Lite cherry treats made exclusively from Door County Montmorency tart cherries.

Specialty meats such as Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Beef and Salmon’s Sausage. Located in Wittenberg, WI., the Nueske family came to Wisconsin in 1882, bringing along with them, European Applewood smoking skills. Salmon’s Meats in Luxemburg, WI., has been making fine local sausages for nearly 100 years.

Gourmet cheeses such as Satori Bellavitano Black Pepper, a 2017 Gold & Grand Champion Award Winner from Plymouth, WI., and Renard’s best-selling aged white cheddar. Renard’s Cheese was established in 1961 in Door County, WI., owned and operated by its 3rd generation of cheesemakers.

Interested and wondering when and how?

The VIP Tour will be offered every Friday at 1:00 PM. It will last about 2 hours depending on group size.

The tour will start and finish at von Stiehl Winery and will include short walks and multiple flights of stairs.

The cost of this tour will be $30 plus tax.

In order to make it feel like a more intimate VIP Tour, we are limiting each tour to 15 people. Reservations are required within a week of the tour. To reserve your spot and to check our availability, please call the winery at 1-920-487-5208.

No refunds if cancelled 3 days prior to the tour, however, you will be able to reschedule the tour.

Vintage Tasting At Wet Whistle Wine Fest

von Stiehl Offers Vintage Tasting on September 16

Tucked away in various places of our production and tasting room buildings are small lots of old vintages. There will be two to ten cases of our favorite varieties spread out and tucked under pallet racking that look out of place. Early September, the odd lots are gathered, we come to terms with how many bottles of each to sell, and we then come up with a Vintage Tasting List. This list is offered only once a year at the Wet Whistle Wine Fest.

Some of the wines offered at this event have a limited supply, so tears will be shed. Below is a sneak peek at a few of the wines featured at this year’s Vintage Tasting.

2015 Big Roast Red ~ This special bottling for our 2015 Meet the Makers Festival, now known as BrewVino Roast, is a blend of four different wines to create the perfect blend. A little spicy with a hint of oak, this blend creates the perfect wine for a barbecue. Only 16 bottles left!

2012 VS Barrel Select Cabernet ~ Every few years an outstanding vintage is allowed an extended time in oak. Three top-tier barrels from a lot of twelve were blended to create this one-time offering. This medium bodied, rich and elegant wine features fragrant aromas of black cherry, cassis and plum with flavors of currant and dark berries. It will only be available at special tastings, so this may be your only time to try it! 20 cases – New Release! 

2016 Apple Bounce ~ Intense aromas of fresh apple pie marry with smooth apple brandy overtones. It’s been aged in small American oak bourbon barrels for four months. 20.5% alcohol. Be careful! Unlimited ~ New Release!

We’d love for you to join us on September 16, from 12:30pm to 3:30pm in the bottling room of our production building at 104 Steele Street. You don’t have to attend the wine festival in order to take part in this tasting, but you are more than welcome to!
