Our Door County vineyard tour includes three unique locations across multiple properties. This experience was created to highlight the journey of the grape from vine to wine! Step into the peaceful countryside of the Schmiling century farm\, located six miles north of Algoma in the south end of Door County. The Stony Creek Vineyard was named for the meandering waterway it overlooks in 1997\, when the first vines were planted by father/son team Bill and Aric Schmiling. This is one of the oldest vineyards in Door County\, managed by the oldest licensed winery in Wisconsin. \nYou will learn about the history of the land\, the development of our first vines\, and how our practices have changed over the years. See the three varieties of French-Hybrid grapes that we grow. These cold-hardy vines were designed at the University of Minnesota to survive our challenging midwestern winters. Hear about the Wisconsin Ledge terroir\, how it affects the vines in their current stage\, and understand how the characteristics of the vineyard show up in our wines. \nThe tour will continue to Algoma through our production facility and historic cellars\, with tastings of special vintages along the way. \nAllow yourself the opportunity to taste and be educated on the lifecycle of a von Stiehl grape through our Door County Vineyard Tour. Expand your knowledge\, and then be able to purchase and take home any desired wine for a true “vineyard to table” experience! This tour is a great way to spend time with friends and family. Fall is the time for pumpkin-spice products (edible and not)\, warm soup\, and the long sought-after\, “sweater weather.” And although we too love all these aspects of fall\, this year\, we are cashing in our sweaters for flannels\, our butternut squash soup for chili\, and our pumpkin spice for Toffee Pecan Pie! (Hard Cider\, that is.) \nThat’s right! Join us for a special limited tap release of our new\, Toffee Pecan Pie Hard Cider! And to celebrate this latest hard cider flavor\, we are engulfing ourselves in the fall season and adding a chili cook-off with a flannel dress code to this special release event! \nPlus\, if you show up in your best flannel\, post a photo\, and Tag the von Stiehl Cider & Spirits Bar’s Facebook page\, you enter yourself for a chance to win a free glass of cider.  \nThe cost is $10/person\, which earns you a full glass of our new Toffee Pecan Pie Hard Cider\, and participation and judging in the chili cook-off. The specific location where grapes are grown imparts distinct qualities to the wine produced from them. \nWe believe that this concept also extends to farmland and the animals raised on it. By joining with Salmon’s Meats and Homestead Kitchen and Tap\, we aim to bring an unpretentious educational experience that pairs our wines and ciders with locally raised beef and locally produced cheese. \nJoin von Stiehl owners on the afternoon and evening of January 23\, to be guided through multiple wine pairing experiences focused on Door and Kewaunee County terroir. Test your wine blending abilities as we create a new red wine together\, then step back in time with a tasting of some of our reserve wines. Only 30 tickets are available. Please sign up soon! \n2 pm von Stiehl Production • 104 Steele Street\nExperience the grapes of our Door County vineyard paired with meats curated by Salmon’s Meats. Learn how Marechal Foch\, Frontenac\, and Marquette grapes are blended to create our estate vintages.\nOur meat experts from Salmon’s will offer three cold cuts of meat to be paired with these wines\, and we will explore together how the flavors of the meat and wine reflect our local lakeside terroir. \n3 pm von Stiehl Production • 104 Steele Street\nA blending experience. Our ultimate task will be to create a super blend which will pair with Krohn cheese made with Ebert milk.\nTeams will create and name their blend\, then write tasting notes explaining why the blend pairs so well with the selected cheese. The winning blend will be produced in 2027. \n4 pm von Stiehl Tasting Room • 115 Navarino Street\nSpecial flight tasting created from our vault wines. \n(5:30 pm winery departure to Homestead Kitchen and Tap)\n6:30 Dinner begins at Homestead Kitchen and Tap • N7551 Co Rd D \nWe’ll move to Homestead Kitchen and Tap for a dinner featuring Ebert Hanger and Flat Iron steaks cooked medium-rare. We’ll learn about the animals\, how they are raised\, and how local terroir and feeding affect flavors. \nCome in comfortable dress.
