If you haven’t gotten on “board” with the charcuterie trend, now is the time. A charcuterie board usually refers to a delicious meat and cheese board served alongside crackers, nuts, spreads, pickles, dried and fresh fruits, etc. It’s basically a fancy meat and cheese tray, but it’s easy to make. Plus, it’s a fun way to use up odds and ends from the fridge because you can use a little bit of everything!
If possible, choose an array of hard and soft cheeses with a variety of tastes and textures. Brie, cheddar, and swiss give a wonderful variance but don’t forget the blue cheese with a drop of honey to pair beautifully with a semi-sweet Riesling. For best-tasting results, let the cheese sit out of the fridge for 30 minutes before serving. Meats can be two, three, or five different types which include: Prosciutto, Salami, Black Forest Ham (basically just about any cured and/or smoked meats). Don’t forget the condiments like jarred jams, mustard, and honey to complement basic flavors. Finish with thinly sliced fresh slices of bread, crackers or breadsticks.
The awesome thing about charcuterie boards is that there is no end to the possible variations. Switching up a few ingredients yields something new and amazing each and every time. Everyone loves a meat and cheese board piled high with fun bites.
