What’s so special about the steer roast? For starters, the steer is unique.

Spent grains from the brewery are currently being fed to our steer at the Bryersquart Family Farm, one of the top farms in polled genetic cattle in Door County. Bryersquart is family to one of the winery owners. The steer is well cared for by Scott Jeanquart, a genetic expert, who is growing one of Door County’s finest herds. His animals and embryos are sold at auction to buyers in the United States and beyond.

Why is the steer roast called the “BrewVino Roast?”

This steer is raised on Ahnapee Brewery spent grains at the Bryersquart Family Farm (Brew). Prior to the roast, the steer is bathed in a cherry wine marinade (Vino). This is a true farm-to-table experience! And not just anybody is preparing this feast. For starters, the steer is processed by Otto’s Meats in Luxemburg. von Stiehl Winemaker, Aric Schmiling, prepares the special cherry and red wine marinade. Then, the full carcass is marinated for 24 hours prior to the steer roast. The roast begins with a hot fire at 3 am on the day of the event, with a serving time somewhere between noon and 2 pm.

FAQs

What does everything cost?

The ticket for this event costs $25 and includes admission, the steer plate, bottled water, a commemorative glass, and fantastic tunes. Wine and beer are àla carte. If there’s extra food after everyone’s been served, you will have the opportunity to buy extras!

A Super Select wine tasting will also be available for purchase in our cellars for $15.

Kewaunee County sales tax and an 85¢ online ticketing fee are added to e-commerce sales.

Tickets are non-transferable. Lastly, no refunds on tickets.

What’s on the steer plate?

Beef, corn on the cob, and other fixings, which might include a roll, beans and coleslaw.

Should I bring a chair?

It might not hurt. We have seating for around 300, and a capped attendance of 750. People do come and go, so getting a table isn’t super hard.

Is the event kid friendly?

Kids 12 & under will have the admission fee waived when accompanied by an adult. However, if they would like anything else on the grounds, such as a steer plate, commemorative glass, soda, etc. it will be àla carte.

Is it rain or shine?

You bet. Also keep in mind that Lake Michigan can offer a chilly 45 degree wind anytime before the 4th of July. It would be wise to bring layers and a jacket.

Is there free wine and beer tasting?

Not inside the event grounds. Inside the winery, we offer complimentary tasting. The brewery almost never gives away their beer, but 5-ounce samplers sell in the tap room for $2 each.

Will there be winery tours?

Yes! However, we will only have two tours due to the event. The tours will be at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm. For more information on our tours click here.

Is my pup allowed?

Due to this event being a food event, we are not allowing dogs inside the event grounds. The only exception is for service dogs.

Who’s running this show?

It’s a collaboration among Ahnapee Brewery and von Stiehl Winery. Von Stiehl Winery is the event organizer. If you have a specific question that is not covered, please feel free to email our special events coordinator at rayanne@vonstiehl.com.

BrewVino Steer Roast 5 Reasons

BrewVino Roast – a True Farm-to-Table Experience!

By now you have heard about our BrewVino Roast through our Facebook page, an episode featured on the Cooking Channel, or even word of mouth from an attendee that told you they got their tickets and you shouldn’t wait much longer. BrewVino is only a month away and with less than half of the tickets left for this year’s event, time is no longer on your side!

Maybe you’ve seen all the posts and the episodes on television, yet you need one more reason you should come to this year’s BrewVino Roast. Well, that’s exactly why we are going to give you “5 Reasons You Should Attend our 2018 BrewVino!” If you’ve already bought your tickets, then think of this list as the “5 Reasons You Should Be Excited to Attend our 2018 BrewVino!”

  1. Wine! After all, what’s an event at a winery without wine? Not only do we have our typical wine selection, but we’ll also have a vintage wine tasting offered in our century year old tunnels. Some of the wines you’ll find waiting for you include our 2014 Alexander Valley Merlot, 2009 Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon, 2018 BrewVino Red (which we will talk about more in just a little bit) and our 2013 Extended Barrel Aged Kirsche. These wines and others on this list aren’t available for purchase just any normal day. After BrewVino, the wine left over will be hidden away until our winemakers decide when to bring them back out.
  2. Jumping off of our first point, our 2018 BrewVino Roast Red has taken a step up from past years. You can tell by the smile on our winemakers’ faces that they are proud of this year’s vintage. If you are a fan of our Calistoga Cabernet, this wine is right up your alley! It’s a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Old Vine Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot. To match the exquisite wine inside the bottle, the label is a decadent maple veneer label with a black foil stamp.
  3. Everyone loves a little feel good aspect. This year we’ve decided to come together with the Wolf Den organization at the Algoma High School. Wolf Den is an after school program aimed at improving the physical, social and emotional well-being of Algoma’s youth. Wolves (high school students) plan and lead various activities which build Pups’ (elementary students) resilience, positive mindset, and basic life skills. There is an optional meal at the end of the program each day to ensure their basic needs are met before going home. Food insecurity and poverty effect many of our Algoma youth.  This program, along with the Wolves & Pups Mentorship Program, ensures that the Pups feel safe, valued and supported.
  4. A true Farm-to-Table experience, that’s exactly what you’ll get! This steer was raised on Ahnapee Brewery spent grains on the Bryersquart Family Farm in Forestville. This is not an amateur production either — for starters, the steer is processed by Otto’s Meats in Luxemburg. After, von Stiehl’s winemaker, Aric Schmiling, will prepare the special cherry wine marinade. Then, the full carcass is marinated for 24 hours before it’s laid over a hot fire at 2 am on the day of the event, with a serving time somewhere between noon and 2 pm, or when our experts deem it ready.
  5. Tickets are selling fast and you’ll regret not getting your tickets fast enough after listening to your friends talking about how much fun they had! Now that the event is drawing closer, the phone calls are coming in, ticket sales are booming and attendees keep calling back to get more tickets for their groups. This year we are capping our attendance to 750 lucky individuals. If you are thinking about how fun this event is, there hasn’t been a better time to get your tickets than now, in order to secure your spot at this event.

BrewVino Roast – an Event With a Different Flavor!

You may have enjoyed our inaugural steer roast last June when it was called Meet the Makers. We found that the most exciting part of the event was not the makers, but the steer roast. This year, we’ll be focusing more on the steer in the renamed BrewVino Roast event, but will also offer a unique batch of wine and beer to complement the steer.

You’ll have the chance to taste the most popular varieties of von Stiehl wines and Ahnapee brews during the event, and enjoy the opportunity to buy an exclusive batch of beer made just for the occasion. What’s unique about the BrewVino Steer roast? This steer was raised on Ahnapee Brewery spent grains on the Bryersquart Family Farm in Forestville. Prior to the roast the whole steer is bathed in a von Stiehl cherry wine marinade. This is not an amateur production, either — for starters, the steer is processed by Ottos Meats in Luxemburg, after which Chef Chris from Skaliwags and von Stiehl winemaker Aric Schmiling will prepare the special  cherry wine marinade. Then the full carcass is marinated for 24 hours before it’s laid over a hot fire at 2 am on the day of the event, with a serving time somewhere between noon and 2 pm, or when our experts deem it ready. This is a true farm-to-table experience!

All profits from the steer roast are donated to the Ribbon of Hope fund. Their mission is to be a financial, informational and emotional resource for individuals with breast cancer in Northeastern Wisconsin. Ribbon of Hope assists breast cancer patients regardless of age, gender, race or religion. This is a great organization where 97¢ of every $1 goes to grant recipients!

If tickets sell out online, they will not be available on the day of the event.
