Wisconsin Wine and Cheese – Together at Last

Wisconsin’s oldest winery is hosting a “Wine of the Quarter Cheese Pairing” on Sunday, June 13, 2010. We’re joining forces with Sartori Foods of Antigo, Wisconsin, producer of award winning artisan cheese. Come to our Algoma winery between 1 pm and 4 pm to sample featured wines and cheeses, and take part in an ongoing discussion about what makes a great wine and cheese combination. The cheese maker is bringing a distinctive line of “Sartori Reserve” to the event. Gold Medal winner Bella Vitano (2008 World Cheese Awards) is a slightly granular cheese with a strong flavor of butter and hints of honey and salt. We’ll serve it with salami and ripe peaches, accompanied by our Lakeshore Fume. For dessert, we’re drizzling honey over Bella Vitano cheese and serving it with Dry Reisling. Hang on to your socks, because they’ll be knocked off at the first taste. Sartori Foods is also bringing Balsamic BellaVitano (Silver Medal, 2009 World Cheese Awards), Raspberry BellaVitano (2008 World Cheese Awards “Best New Cheese”), and Black Pepper BellaVitano (Gold Medal 2009 World Cheese Awards), among others. You’ll certainly want to see what we match with their Merlot BellaVitano, voted the best cheese in the United States in 2009. We’ve worked hard with Sartori Foods to determine which of our Wisconsin Wines best match their cheeses. Finding foods and wines that bring out the best in each other is a subtle art, and a powerful one. Come to June 13 event, and become a host who floors dinner guests with a well paired meal and leaves them begging for more. This event is free for current Wine and Cheese Club members and everyone who becomes a member on the 13th.
